I have to choose between buffing some of my warriors or some of my mages. It only buffs the golem (and not all minions). The Osseous Gale Aspect does not increase the duration of the bone storm surrounding the golem, only the duration of the bone storm surrounding the necromancer. It benefits from the golem instead of benefitting the golem. It’s bursty (one big heal every 5 seconds, instead of spread out over 5 seconds). It forces me to use Raise Skeleton every 5 seconds (which is a tax).It raises my skeletons, which makes me want to save it for emergencies but it also deals damage and buffs my minions (with a legendary aspect), so I want to use it frequently. It doesn’t generate a meaningful amount of corpses. It counter-synergises with Maximum Minion Life.It heals for a small amount (20%) of the small amount (15%) that blood orbs heal me for.It requires blood orbs (which are hard to generate for a summoner). It’s gated behind Gruesome Mending (which doesn’t buff minions).Terror feels bad, because it only synergises with darkness mages. Necrotic Carapace feels bad, because it only meaningfully synergises with reapers. Gloom feels bad, because it only synergises with darkness mages. It only buffs mages (and not all minions).Skeletal Mage Mastery feels bad, because: It counter-synergises with crowd control (which I want to apply to enemies). It relies on enemy attack speed (which I can’t control). There are very few ways to increase its damage.Spiked Armor (and thorns in general) feels bad, because: It only buffs warriors (and not all minions). It’s mandatory for minion survivability.Skeletal Warrior Mastery feels bad, because: It benefits from minions instead of benefitting minions.Hewed Flesh feels bad, because it doesn’t work with minions. It “requires” a legendary affix (Aspect Of the Void).īone Spear feels bad, because even though it’s great for applying vulnerable (which buffs minions), it does more damage with a five point investment than my minions do with all of their skills, paragon boards, glyphs, and legendaries. It travels slowly (so it might miss, denying my minions the damage buff).Reap feels ok, because it makes a corpse early, even though it doesn’t synergise with minions in any other way. I have to channel for 2 seconds to make a corpse, but I want to move around to avoid taking damage (for Kalan’s Edict), and I want to cast Skeletal Priests/Corpse Tendrils/Corpse Explosion. It only makes a corpse after 2 seconds, and I need corpses early for Skeletal Priests/Corpse Tendrils/Corpse Explosion. It does very little damage (even with skills, paragon boards, glyphs, affixes, and legendaries), but it’s survivable, and at least its activated ability provides agency. It requires a constant stream of corpses, basically forcing me to choose reapers and Hewed Flesh, which basically forces me to choose Corpse Explosion (so that I’m not “wasting” spare corpses). When skeletons start dying, Raise Skeleton raises a skeleton instead of summoning a Skeletal Priest, which means no healing, which means more skeletons die, etc.Using it less frequently than once every 5 seconds means I might lose some skeletons, at which point I find myself in a death spiral, because:.Using it more frequently than once every 5 seconds is pointless, because the buffs and duration do not stack.I have to use it every 5 seconds to keep my skeletons alive. The damage buff does “nothing”, because minion damage is so low.Having to buff mages and warriors separately feels awful.Minion buffs are “boring” (+damage, +attack speed, +health, +damage reduction). Minions only inheriting 30% of most stats feels awful. All I can do is tell the developers what feels bad (to me at least), and why I think it feels bad. Now, I’m not a game developer, so I won’t pretend to know how to fix the summoner (specifically), or Diablo IV (in general). As such, “just roll another class and/or build”, while sage advice, simply won’t solve my problem.Īnd that problem is: playing a summoner in Diablo IV just feels bad. I should start by saying that in Diablo II I play exclusively summoners, in Diablo III I play exclusively summoners, and in Diablo IV I play exclusively summoners.
